Mosaic Heart – Easy and Fun to Make

Mosaic heart – a lovely handmade gift idea Red mosaic heart Pink glitter mosaic heart

A mosaic heart is quick and easy to create, making it perfect even for beginners. The hearts shown in the images are made with Soft Glass mosaic tiles combined with various decorative beads. For a 15 cm heart base, great matching materials include Mini Glass Gems, Fantasy Glass 12 mm, and Lilliput gems. You can also add a refined touch with beautifully patterned Millefiori pieces.

We recommend using silicone glue or Olba glue, both of which provide strong initial adhesion (the pieces won’t slide) and are frost-resistant – ideal if your heart will be displayed outdoors. We also offer convenient DIY kits for red and pink glitter mosaic hearts – each kit includes the materials you need to make one beautiful mosaic heart. A perfect starting point for your mosaic hobby or a thoughtful gift idea.

You will need:

How to make the mosaic heart:

  1. If you want to hang your heart, attach a loop or string before gluing any tiles.
  2. Apply glue to a small area of the styrofoam base at a time and press the mosaic pieces into place.
  3. Leave a 2–4 mm gap between tiles for grouting. Avoid getting glue on top of the pieces or on your fingers, and ensure good ventilation. Let the piece dry thoroughly.
  4. When grouting, always wear protective gloves and a mask. Mix about 150 g of grout with approx. 0.5 dl of water until you reach a thick, porrigde like consistency. Let it sit for 2–3 minutes, mix again, and spread the grout evenly over the surface using a rubber spreader or your hands.
  5. Allow the grout to set for about 5 minutes. Then wipe the surface with a damp sponge or a piece of foam using circular motions. This step smooths and compresses the grout lines. Let the work dry for a few more minutes.
  6. Finally, polish the mosaic surface gently with a soft, dry cloth. Dispose of dried grout residue in general waste – do not pour it into the drain. Let the finished piece dry for a few more hours before use.

You can find styrofoam hearts in various sizes in our online store – the largest is 30 cm. Combine different sizes and colours to create a stunning mosaic display on your wall!

Your mosaic heart doesn’t have to be red – feel free to choose colours that match your interior and experiment with different materials! The brown heart shown here is made with 20 mm glass mosaic tiles, cut into smaller pieces using a wheeled Glass Nippers. The blue and pink hearts are decorated with Soft Glass and Millefiori pieces, and their edges are outlined with glass nuggets. The light-coloured heart is covered with genuine mother-of-pearl tiles, adding a soft shimmer.

You can also create a beautiful mosaic heart plaque by gluing the styrofoam heart onto an MDF base. Start by covering the edges and background of the base with mosaic tiles, then decorate the heart. Let it dry thoroughly, grout the next day, and finally attach small screws and hanging wire to the back of the board.

An old flowerpot can get a stunning new look with a mosaic surface! Use leftover tiles from renovations or broken dishware combined with new mosaic pieces — the possibilities are endless. Vintage treasures can continue their story as beautiful decorative details on the side of the pot.

Heart Jar

Cover an ordinary glass jar with mosaic to create a charming container for flowers, pens, or small trinkets. The jar in the photo was made using Soft Glass tiles and ceramic hearts. Use a high-grip adhesive and grout with white mosaic grout for a clean result. Finish it off with a pretty bow made from decorative ribbon.
