Transparent smalti mosaic tiles

Transparent smalti is a traditional glass mosaic material for projects where colour, light and glass-like depth are important. The pieces are cut from smalti “pizza” slabs, which means their size, shape and surface vary naturally.

Transparent smalti pieces are especially suitable for lanterns, light-catching mosaic projects, decorative objects, art mosaics, details and indoor or outdoor use. When light passes through the glass, the colours become vivid and the shade may change depending on the background and viewing angle.

The pieces are approximately 20 x 10 mm in size and about 5–6 mm thick. Smalti pieces are often placed closely side by side and in some techniques may be used without traditional grouting.
